GraphHopper Routing Engine 1.0 brings customisable routing to OpenStreetMap

Press Release 25 May - 13:25 SAST

Information from OSM

Version 1.0 of the open source GraphHopper routing engine has just been released. The first version (v0.1) of the routing engine was released in 2013 and has since grown into a mature solution that is integrated on openstreetmap.org since late 2014. It is now used by thousands of companies around the world.

The new release contains a fast alternative routes feature, as well as a new customisable routing that allows users to modify the routing behaviour without programming knowledge.

GraphHopper calculates optimal routes in road networks (for example taken from OpenStreetMap) for many different vehicle types and finds the ideal itinerary when using public transit. It is released under the Apache License 2.0 and users can easily try its road routing capabilities on GraphHopper Maps. Besides the route calculations, the routing engine offers features like the map matching (“snap to road”), the navigation and the isochrone calculation (for a point it finds all reachable roads within a specified time). GraphHopper routing is integrated into OpenStreetMap, together with OSRM routing.
